Staats applauds farmland preservation in Milford Twp.

QUAKERTOWN – Rep. Craig Staats (R-Bucks) applauded local farmers Gary and Linda Bender for preserving their Milford Township farm through Pennsylvania’s Farmland Preservation Program.

“Preserving farmland is not just a matter of food security for Pennsylvania, it secures local jobs and a way of life,” Staats said. “I want to thank the Benders for recognizing the benefits of farmland preservation that will have lasting impacts for generations to come.”

The Benders preserved their 17-acre crop farm, one of 31 farms in 20 counties across the state to gain preservation approval from the State Agricultural Land Preservation Board. This will protect them from future residential or commercial development and help ensure a strong future for farming and food security.

Pennsylvania’s Farmland Preservation Program partners with local governments and nonprofits to purchase development rights to preserve farmland. By selling development rights, farm owners ensure their farms remain in agricultural production and are never sold to developers.
