Friedman resigns from Quakertown Community School District
Quakertown Community School Board accept Superintendent Matthew Friedman’s resignation Tuesday evening. Friedman began a leave of absence on February 13, a week prior to high school students conducting a walkout in protest of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement which led to a violent encounter with police and the arrest of five teenagers. At this writing, the reason for Friedman’s departure have not been disclosed. Assistant superintendent Lisa Hoffman has taken over his duties in the interim.
Newtown Township works toward fire service agreement with Newtown Borough
The Newtown Township Board of Supervisors has unanimously voted to instruct the township’s legal counsel to write up an agreement whereby Newtown Borough would contribute $275,000 for fire services for the rest of the year. In the absence of a contract so far this year, the fire department had largely ceased taking nonemergency calls in the borough, while the department continued to respond to emergencies. With the temporary funding agreement in place, the two municipalities will keep negotiating over how much each will pay for fire service in the long term. While all township supervisors present for Supervisor Phil Calabro absent.
John Poveromo returns to Comedy Works in Bristol
Comedian John Poveromo, best known for his Dystopia Tonight podcast as well as his frequent appearances on Fox 29 and on SiriusXm, will headline shows at Georgine’s Restaurant’s Comedy Works in Bristol this Friday and Saturday at 8:30 p.m. both nights. Joanne Filan, of the Misfits of Comedy and Broads of Broadway traveling shows, will also perform at the shows along with a special guest comedian. Tickets are $25 and are available at the Comedy Works website. On March 28, Poveromo will host the 24th Annual Garden State Film Festival in Asbury Park, New Jersey.
