Lower Bucks residents jarred by ‘bomb sounds’
On Monday evening, the sound of explosions that startled nearby residents who flooded Middletown Township Police with calls came from a self-storage facility off South Flowers Mill Road as a result of controlled detonations by the FBI. Agents were investigating the Bucks County men involved in a bomb threat in New York, Saturday, and discovered links to the local self-storage unit. Bomb materials and chemicals found in a self-storage unit were too dangerous to transport, they said. It is believed the unit is connected to Emir Balat, 18, of Langhorne, and Ibrahim Kayumi, 19, of Newtown, arrested in a bomb plot last Saturday in New York City. Both remain in custody facing federal charges, including terrorism, ISIS-inspired one said. They are suspects in the alleged bomb thrown near Mayor Zohran Mamdani’s (D) home but aimed at an anti-Muslim crowd assembled in the street. It failed to explode and was heroically grabbed by a NYPD police officer.
Nearly $140,000 raised for the ‘Quakertown Five’
Online efforts have raised nearly $140,000 for the “Quakertown Five,” including legal and attorneys’ fees, medical costs, and support services. Don Souders, who represents one male student who participated in the anti-ICE walkout at Quakertown Community High School on February 20, wrote a letter with several demands regarding how the community treats the incident. The Phillipsburg, New Jersey attorney especially asked that the charges be dismissed against his client and the other students. As of last week, the attorney asked that the students’ charges be dismissed. Meanwhile, Quakertown Borough Police Chief Scott McElree’s fate the Quakertown Borough Council. He is currently off the job on workers’ compensation leave.
