Largest winter storm to hit Bucks County and region in ten years – Bucks Round-Up – January 23, 2026

Largest winter storm to hit Bucks County and region in ten years

Bucks County is bracing for what forecasters say could be the region’s most significant winter storm in a decade, with heavy snow, ice, and dangerous travel conditions expected to stretch well into next week. Meteorologists at the National Weather Service office in Mount Holly, New Jersey say the storm will begin impacting Bucks County Saturday evening and continue through Monday. NWS meteorologist Zack Cooper said most of the county can expect between twelve and eighteen inches of snow, with Lower Bucks likely to see totals closer to a foot. What makes this storm especially concerning is the expected mix of precipitation. Cooper warned that Lower Bucks County will likely experience a combination of snow, freezing rain, and ice before another round of snow moves in. That layered mix could make road conditions especially treacherous and increase the risk of power outages. The last storm to deliver snowfall totals this high hit the region roughly ten years ago, also in January. Forecasters say frigid temperatures expected through next weekend will prevent much of the snow and ice from melting quickly, meaning hazardous conditions could linger for days.

AAA Mid-Atlantic urges drivers to prepare for winter storm

AAA Mid-Atlantic is urging residents to stay off the roads whenever possible to allow PennDOT crews to clear highways and secondary roads. AAA spokesperson Jana Tidwell said drivers who must be out for work should prepare immediately. Tidwell emphasized making sure vehicles are stocked with essentials, including plenty of windshield washer fluid, properly inflated tires, and a fully equipped emergency kit. She recommended jumper cables, a first-aid kit, a flashlight with working batteries, abrasive materials like rock salt or kitty litter for traction, and winter tools such as a collapsible snow shovel, ice scraper, and snow brush. AAA says its tow trucks and contractors will be fully staffed throughout the storm to assist stranded motorists.

Police identify driver killed during last Sunday’s snowfall

The dangers of winter driving were underscored by a fatal crash during last Sunday’s snowfall in Lower Bucks County. Middletown Township Police have identified the victim as 31-year-old David Palowski. Police say Palowski was driving south on Route 413 near New Falls Road when his vehicle lost control, crossed into oncoming traffic, and collided with another vehicle before flipping over. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The occupants of the other vehicle were not injured. Investigators believe snow-covered roads were a contributing factor. Officials continue to urge residents to use caution, avoid unnecessary travel, and prepare now as the storm approaches.
