Speak Your Piece: Media who dismissed Biden’s mental decline know they blew it
Suddenly they know about former President Joe Biden’s mental and physical decline – as the book deals roll in. The people who worked in the White House and more importantly, the legacy media, saw that something was wrong with the president, we now know.
And I can go into WBCB’s Speak Your Piece show archives and listen to my own observations and criticism of the Democratic leadership for failing to admit this discourage the president from a reelection bid for health reasons. Nevertheless, the president was slated to be on the ticket and determined to go for another term.
Later, he protested the suggestion of stepping aside, by saying “only God Almighty” could convince him to quit. But it was not the Almighty, but that fateful debate when all the world saw the weak, failing president and the party went after him, not the media.
The stubbornness about this was a disservice to the nation, yes. But the political powers, leaders like Nancy Pelosi and Barack Obama were only looking for a “win” until they saw a loss coming on the wings of the debate performance. What followed was a shameless coup d’état and the party’s anointment of Kamala Harris.
For two years or more, I was concerned about Joe Biden’s mental decline. I was not alone; other voices rose from Republican ranks and the GOP-leaning talking heads. All were dismissed and sharply criticized by their news colleagues who clearly stood behind the Democrats like handmaidens.
My concern then and now is the failure of the media to seek the truth and uncover a scandal. They let us – and the nation – down. However, it was noted at the recent White House Correspondents Association Dinner — where media figures pat each other on the back — one brave award-winner, referring to the Biden “situation,” said the press corps has “to do better,” to weak applause. A lot better.
While the legacy media missed an opportunity to write a prize-winning story, the scoop of all scoops, there’s another question, a potential blockbuster: Who was running the country for the last three or four years?
