Scam warning as Texas flood relief drives roll in
Bucks County residents are being urged to stay vigilant as scam artists exploit recent flooding in Texas. Mike Bannon, director of the Bucks County Department of Consumer Protection, says fraudulent emails and spoofed phone calls asking for donations are circulating locally. “Scammers will often use spoofing technology to impersonate legitimate charities on caller ID,” Bannon warned. He recommends donors verify organizations through CharityNavigator.org, where detailed information on charitable legitimacy is available. The alert comes as images of devastation in Texas prompt nationwide relief efforts — making it a ripe opportunity for scammers to take advantage of generous but unsuspecting contributors.
Bristol Borough doubles down on flood preparedness
Flooding was front and center at this week’s Bristol Borough Council meeting. Citing the town’s vulnerability as a waterfront community, East Ward Councilman Greg Pezza expressed solidarity with Texans and underscored the importance of local readiness. He encouraged residents to sign up for emergency notifications by texting “BRISTOL BORO” to 777888. Emergency Management Coordinator AJ DeAngelis detailed new investments, including a marine rescue boat and joint training with Croydon Fire Company. A state-funded flood study continues on Green Lane, a frequent trouble spot during heavy rains. “Preparedness is always a top priority,” DeAngelis affirmed.
Golden era begins in Yardley Police Department
Yardley Borough has a new leader. Sgt. William Golden III was officially sworn in Tuesday night as the borough’s Chief of Police. Golden, who began his career with the department in 2005, received praise from Yardley Council President Caroline Thompson, who highlighted his leadership, accessibility, and decorated service record. The ceremony was attended by former Yardley Chief Joe Kelly — now heading Lower Makefield Township PD — who Golden described as a mentor. The transition marks a new chapter in local law enforcement, with Golden expected to maintain the department’s close ties to the community.
