Quakertown runner’s lawsuit over transgender athlete dismissed

A federal judge has dismissed a lawsuit filed by Quakertown Community High School junior Aislin Magalengo, who claimed her civil rights were violated when she was required to compete against a transgender girl in a cross-country meet last fall. Magalengo placed second to a Plymouth Whitemarsh runner who was born male but competes in the girls’ division. She argued the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association (PIAA) and local school districts violated Title IX’s prohibition on sex-based discrimination. In an August 8 ruling, the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania found that Title IX did not apply in the way Magalengo asserted and that she sought damages the law does not authorize. All five claims against the school districts, the PIAA, and multiple officials were dismissed.

Middletown’s new manager outlines fiscal challenges

Middletown Township’s new manager, Eden Ratliff, addressed supervisors Monday night, outlining significant budget concerns just one month into his tenure. Ratliff reported a $2.5 million operational deficit in the township’s general fund, projected to grow by another $1 million on January 1. He also cited the need for expanded fire and rescue resources. Despite the financial hurdles, Ratliff struck an optimistic tone, saying the township has “an amazing staff” and that its challenges are solvable.

Bucks County proclaims Middletown Grange Fair week

The Bucks County Commissioners have officially designated August 13–17 as Middletown Grange Fair Week, honoring the long-running Wrightstown event. Republican Commissioner Gene DiGirolamo praised the Grange’s evolution from a farmers’ organization to a broad community institution. Former Fair President and current consultant Amber Dilianni accepted the proclamation, highlighting the fair’s mix of agricultural showcases, crafts, antiques, carnival rides, and food. The fairgrounds at 576 Penns Park Road have hosted the event since 1967, offering residents and visitors a place to connect in the final days of summer.
