Proposed Hilltown senior housing spurs traffic, safety concerns

A long-discussed Hilltown Township property near Route 309 is back in play as Hallmark Homes pushes forward with plans for a 73-unit age-restricted townhouse community and eleven single-family homes off Swartley Road. The developer appeared before the Board of Supervisors this week to review the proposal and request several waivers, but supervisors stopped short of a vote. Instead, they directed the Warrington-based builder to redesign a key interior road. The current P-shaped layout provides only one entrance and exit, an arrangement supervisors say falls short of township expectations for emergency access and overall safety. They’re seeking a U-shaped design with two access points before considering preliminary approval. Hallmark is expected to return in January with a revised plan. Residents raised familiar concerns Monday night, warning that added traffic near an already busy corridor could threaten safety and strain local roads. Others pointed to stormwater runoff, environmental impacts, and potential property-value declines. Unlike a previous proposal from Lennar that required a zoning change and was ultimately withdrawn, Hallmark’s plan fits within existing zoning, giving it a clearer path forward pending the township’s two-stage approval process.

Holiday travel expected to break records again

AAA is forecasting another record-setting holiday season, projecting 122.4 million Americans will travel at least 50 miles between December 20 and January 1 — a 2.2% increase over last year’s all-time high. Road travel remains dominant, with 109.5 million expected to drive. Lower gas prices are helping: The national average recently dipped below $3 a gallon for the first time in four years. With more cars on the road, AAA and MADD are urging drivers to stay alert during what remains one of the most dangerous travel periods of the year. December is National Impaired Driving Prevention Month, and safety advocates are asking motorists to plan sober rides home before holiday celebrations begin.

Warrington Police cite worker after chaotic first day

Warrington Township Police say a 21-year-old Philadelphia man caused a disturbance on his first day at Amazon Fresh on December 4, allegedly confronting another employee, shouting profanities, and throwing merchandise — one item hitting the other worker in the face. Officers reviewed video from the man’s social media showing the outburst. He was cited for disorderly conduct and barred from the property. All charges are allegations unless proven in court.
