New York felon gets lengthy prison sentence after Hilltown arrest

A New York man with a violent criminal past has been sentenced to up to 20 years in a Pennsylvania state prison following a 2023 arrest in Hilltown Township. Police were called to a gas station on Bethlehem Pike just after midnight last November for a welfare check and found 52-year-old Daniel Perez of Newburgh, NY, slumped and unresponsive near his vehicle. Officers observed slurred speech and, during a search, discovered a loaded handgun in the car. Perez was driving on a suspended license and was legally barred from possessing a firearm due to a 1995 New York conviction for armed robbery and attempted murder. He was found guilty after a two-day trial in Bucks County Court and sentenced Friday to 8–20 years. The Bucks County District Attorney’s Office emphasized its commitment to enforcing gun laws, especially when individuals prohibited from owning firearms cross into Pennsylvania.

Local police warn of E-ZPass, PennDOT scams

Several Bucks County police departments are alerting residents to a surge in scam attempts involving fake E-ZPass and PennDOT messages. Police in Perkasie, Newtown, and Plumstead report a recent uptick in text messages and phone calls urging recipients to pay supposed overdue tolls or fines by clicking suspicious links. Plumstead Township Police say residents are receiving fraudulent texts claiming to be from PennDOT regarding unpaid traffic violations. Authorities are urging residents to delete these messages immediately and not to click any links. Those concerned about outstanding tolls or tickets should contact E-ZPass or PennDOT directly through official channels.

Falls Township rolling out new trash carts

Falls Township residents will be seeing new trash carts delivered to their homes over the coming days as Waste Management prepares to switch to automated trash collection starting June 28. Some initial confusion surrounded last week’s deliveries, but company spokesperson Patty Barthel says the rollout is now proceeding on schedule. 18,000 carts will be distributed, and Barthel is asking residents for patience as crews continue the process throughout this week. Households with questions or concerns about the carts can contact Waste Management’s customer service at 1-800-869-5566.
