New mural breathes life into historic freight car in Perkasie Borough

Perkasie Borough is proud to announce the completion of a vibrant new mural on the long-abandoned SEPTA freight car at the corner of N. 8th Street and W. Market Street. Created by renowned artist Carrie Kingsbury of Promiseland Murals and installed with the skilled assistance of the Perkasie Public Works Department, the mural transforms a once-blighted site into a striking gateway to the Borough’s historic downtown.

The mural’s design, reviewed with input from local residents and Borough Council members, celebrates some of Perkasie’s best-loved landmarks and events, and strong sense of community. “It was an honor to create something that showcases what people love most about Perkasie,” said Kingsbury. “This mural tells a story of connection, history, and celebration, and I hope it brings a smile to everyone who sees it.”

The project was funded in part through the Visit Bucks County Tourism Grant Program, with additional support from Perkasie Borough. The Borough partnered with the Perkasie Town Improvement Association to secure funding and to manage the project from concept through installation.

“This project embodies what makes Perkasie special — our ability to honor the past while creating something fresh and inviting for future generations,” said Kelly Laustsen, Borough Councilperson and Chair of Perkasie’s Economic Development Committee.  “The mural not only revitalizes a key entrance to the Borough but also highlights our growing collection of public art that draws residents and visitors alike.”

Located adjacent to Perkasie’s historic freight station and near the award-winning Farmers Market, the mural is expected to become a focal point for community pride and tourism. Its installation is part of a larger vision to redevelop the site for recreational and cultural use, strengthening the connection between Perkasie’s heritage and its vibrant future.
