Multiple fire companies battling massive tire fire at Plumstead scrap metal recycler Wednesday afternoon
Numerous fire companies from Bucks County and one from New Jersey are on scene of a massive rubbish and tire fire at a Plumstead Township scrap metal recycler on Easton Road in Wednesday afternoon.
Easton Road is shut down due to the blaze at 611 Metals Recycling at 6776 Easton Road. Avoid the area. Traffic is diverted down Routes 413 and 611.
The fire broke out around noon, according to Bucks County emergency radio. Firefighters are refilling tankers with water from a local pond near Route 113.
“We saw smoke at first. All the guys ran out with fire extinguishers,” officer manager Chrissy Rush told PhillyBurbs.com. “But when they started pulling it apart, we could see fire in the middle of the pile. And then we knew it was too big for us to put out without any help.”
Responding units include Plumsteadville, Doylestown, Perkasie, Silverdale, Dublin, Ottsville, Point Pleasant, Delaware Valley, Midway, Hilltown Township, Upper Black Eddy, Haycock, Warwick and Chalfont fire companies, as well as Point Pleasant-Plumsteadville EMS and fire units from Hunterdon County, NJ.
According to its website, 611 Metals is a full-service scrap metal and electronics recycling company, accepting ferrous and non-ferrous metals, junk cars, and construction demolition materials.
