Mastriano decides against another gubernatorial campaign
In a Facebook Live video on Wednesday, state Sen. Doug Mastriano (R-Adams/Franklin) announced that he will not be a candidate for the Republican nomination for governor of Pennsylvania.
Mastriano, who was defeated by Gov. Josh Shapiro by 800,000 votes and 15 percentage points in 2022, said that he and his wife, Rebbie, prayed on the decision before opting out of another campaign.
The decision may clear the field for State Treasurer Stacy Garrity to secure the GOP nomination to challenge Shapiro in November. Garrity, who won reelection to her position in 2024, has received the endorsement of the Republican Party of Pennsylvania in her quest for the governor’s mansion.
Mastriano did not endorse Garrity during the 25-minute video call and left the door ajar for future plans.
