Lucabaugh strikes hopeful tone in Centennial, despite left-wing protest
On Thursday evening, Centennial School District held a forum introducing former Central Bucks School District Superintendent Abram Lucabaugh to the community as Centennial’s superintendent finalist. Leftist residents of the district encompassing Ivyland, Upper Southampton, and Warminster protested Lucabaugh for declining to champion liberal social causes when he led CBSD. He resigned from CBSD in 2023 after Democrats hostile to his leadership were elected to a majority on the Central Bucks School Board.
A former English teacher and high school principal, Lucabaugh is one of 32 applicants Centennial school directors reviewed for the position. In his remarks, he struck a hopeful tone for the Lower Bucks District and his role in it. “I think that this is a district that is poised to be one of the premier districts not only in Bucks County but in the state,” he said. “And I think that if we work together, if we have clear vision and determination, we can build something that you can be incredibly proud of, beyond what you already are.” A final vote to appoint him is expected next Tuesday.
IU and BCCC work with GMercyU on undergrad special-ed apprentice program
Gwynedd Mercy University announced it is teaming up with the Bucks County Intermediate Unit and Bucks County Community College to create a conduit for Bucks IU employees to get their bachelor’s degrees and special-education teaching certification. The program is designed to mitigate a major shortage of special-education faculty in the region.
Participants will earn an initial 60 credits from BCCC and the rest at GMercyU. They will fill student-teaching roles in the Bucks IU.
