Local hospitals release most Bristol nursing home explosion victims

Most of the nineteen victims of the recent explosion at Bristol Health and Rehab Center on Tower Road, formerly known as Silver Lake Nursing Home, have been released. Two individuals died in the blast: Bristol Township resident and nurse Muthoni Nduthu as well as an unidentified person who the Philadelphia Medical Examiner’s Office is not expected to identify in the immediate future. The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating the explosion which occurred at the 174-bed nursing home on December 23 after a gas odor emanated from the facility’s basement.

Lower Southampton and Perkasie receive $1 million combined for traffic signal upgrades

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation yesterday announced that 57 municipalities, including two in Bucks County, will get almost $30 million for improved traffic signal technology. The upgrades will allow signals to mitigate congestion, respond in real time to traffic conditions, and improve road safety. The Green Light-Go Program will allot $662,355 for multiple intersections along Bustleton Pike and Bristol Road in Lower Southampton Township and $425,240 to replace equipment at Ridge Road and Park Avenue in Perkasie Borough.

Bucks County shelters $165,000 in state funds

The commonwealth is bestowing Emergency Solutions Grants (ESG) on three Bucks County institutions that serve the homeless population. The Bucks County Emergency Homeless Shelter, A Woman’s Place’s domestic violence shelter, and the Bucks County Opportunity Council’s Housing Locator will recent $165,000 altogether. This round of ESGs statewide total $5,330,914. “This ESG funding will be used by trusted community organizations to provide essential resources to help individuals and families across the commonwealth find or maintain housing,” Department of Community and Economic Development Secretary Rick Siger said in a statement.
