Levittown man charged in online sex sting
A Levittown man is behind bars after allegedly attempting to meet a minor for sex in Bensalem. Police say 64-year-old Ali Memis initiated contact through text messages and photos with what he believed was a teenage girl. Authorities report the conversation quickly turned sexual in nature. On Thursday, May 8, Memis drove from his New Jersey workplace to an apartment in Bensalem where he expected to meet the girl while her mother was away. Instead, Bensalem Township police were waiting. He was arrested at the scene and is facing charges including attempted indecent assault and other related offenses. Memis is being held on $900,000 bail.
DA Schorn warns teens: stay safe during prom and graduation season
As prom and graduation season hits full swing across Bucks County, District Attorney Jennifer Schorn is urging young drivers to prioritize safety. Schorn is encouraging teens to plan ahead—especially when it comes to transportation. Using rideshare services and wearing seatbelts are at the top of her list. She also reminded drivers that overcrowded vehicles can lead to dangerous distractions. “A little preparation can prevent a tragedy,” Schorn said. Her office is working closely with schools and local police to keep celebrations safe and sober.
Fitness expert: now’s the time for outdoor exercise
With temperatures hovering in the sweet spot for fitness—between 52 and 72 degrees—local exercise guru Maureen Solomon is encouraging residents to take advantage of spring weather. Solomon, a frequent guest on WBCB’s Upwards with Chris Ermer, says brisk walking and jogging are more effective and enjoyable in milder conditions. She cautioned against pushing workouts into hotter summer days, which can reduce physical performance and increase the risk of heat-related issues. Her advice: “Get outside while the weather’s on your side.”
