Letter to the editor: Doylestown Twp. doesn’t need to be red or blue — it needs to be well run
Local government should never be about red versus blue — it should be about you. Every family, every taxpayer, every neighbor who calls Doylestown home deserves leaders who serve the entire community, not just one political side.
That’s why my running mate, Colleen Brophy Brennan, and I are running to represent all residents of Doylestown Township. We’ve pledged to leave politics at the door when we walk into the Township Building. Our focus is on practical issues that affect everyone equally — keeping taxes fair, supporting our police and first responders, maintaining safe roads, and protecting the quality of life that makes Doylestown such a special place to live.
Unfortunately, our opponents recently sent out a fundraising message that said, “We need your help now to keep Doylestown blue.”
That statement says a lot. It doesn’t talk about taxes, roads, safety, or families — it talks about keeping a political color.
Doylestown doesn’t need to be red or blue. It needs to be well run. It needs leaders who listen, and who understand that good ideas aren’t owned by any one party. When you walk into the voting booth this November, you’re not choosing colors — you’re choosing character, balance, and commitment to all residents.
Colleen and I would be honored to serve our entire community — Democrats, Republicans, and Independents alike — because what unites us as neighbors is far more important than what divides us as voters.
Respectfully,
Joe Van Houten, candidate for Doylestown Township supervisor
