Garrity gains endorsement for governor from PA GOP
It is now official.
The Republican Party of Pennsylvania gave its endorsement to State Treasurer Stacy Garrity as its candidate for governor.
The endorsement, which was not unanimous via voice vote, comes from a vote of the full body of the Republican State Committee at the group’s Fall State Committee Meeting on Saturday in State College.
“I’m deeply honored to receive the endorsement of the Republican Party of Pennsylvania. This vote of confidence marks a pivotal moment in our campaign to restore strong, conservative leadership across the Commonwealth. With the support of our state party and Pennsylvania Republicans, we will continue building a strong, grassroots campaign dedicated to delivering real results: restoring fiscal responsibility, making our communities safer, and creating opportunities for hardworking Pennsylvanians. Together, we will fight to protect our values, defend our freedoms, and make Pennsylvania one of the best places to live, work, and raise a family.”
The native of Bradford County also launched a salvo at the current holder of the office – Gov. Josh Shapiro.
“There is no more dangerous place in Harrisburg than standing between Josh Shapiro and a camera or a liberal donor handing him a check,” she said. “I am not running for governor as a stepping stone to something bigger. I’m running for governor of Pennsylvania to serve you. I know what it means to serve. I know what it means to sacrifice and I know what it means to solve the tough problems impacting the lives of Pennsylvania families.”
“Stacy Garrity represents the very best of Pennsylvania,” said PA GOP chair Greg Rothman. “She is a proven leader with a record of service, integrity, and results. As State Treasurer, Stacy has fought to protect taxpayers, bring accountability to Harrisburg, and ensure fiscal responsibility. We are proud to endorse her campaign for Governor and we are confident she will lead Pennsylvania with the same dedication she has shown throughout her career in public service, the private sector, and the military.”
Garrity has already secured the endorsements of prominent state Republicans, including former Gov. Tom Corbett and Reps. Lloyd Smucker (R-11) and Glenn Thompson (R-15).
Pennsylvania Democrats countered Rothman’s view.
“Stacy Garrity has a long track record of views and positions that are wrong for Pennsylvania,” said PA Dems chair Eugene DePasquale. “Garrity has embraced and celebrated a federal bill that will eliminate health care for 310,000 Pennsylvanians and raise costs for so many more, could cause at least 25 rural hospitals to close, and will kill more than 20,000 energy jobs – all to give tax breaks to billionaires. She has long fought for an extreme anti-choice agenda – celebrating the fall of Roe v. Wade and even selling anti-abortion merchandise. And she co-hosted a rally to throw out Pennsylvanians’ votes and overturn the results of the 2020 election.”
