Frigid air grips Bucks County and the region

Homeowners across Bucks County will be reaching for the thermostat as the first true blast of cold air arrives Monday night. Meteorologist Mike Lee of the National Weather Service in Mount Holly warns residents to prepare for temperatures dipping into the upper 20s and low 30s, with wind chills making it feel even colder. “It’ll be one of the coldest nights we’ve had this fall,” Lee said, noting that overnight lows are expected to remain in the 30s through the week. Daytime temperatures should moderate by midweek, offering a brief return to typical fall weather. The meteorological start of winter comes December 1, though the astronomical winter solstice won’t arrive until December 21.

Philadelphia man charged in Bucks County parking lot altercation

A Philadelphia man faces charges after an alleged assault and hit-and-run in the Warrington Aldi parking lot on November 4. Police say 68-year-old Michael Edward Smith became angry that another customer was taking too long to load her car. Witnesses report Smith used a racial slur toward a bystander and then allegedly grabbed the victim by the arms, causing pain and fear. Smith fled the scene, striking two parked cars before being stopped by Upper Southampton Police in Huntingdon Valley. Warrington officers took him into custody, processed him, and later released him pending further proceedings.
