Megabill passes over Fitzpatrick’s “no” vote
Both houses of Congress having passed tax and spending legislation supported by the White House, President Donald Trump is expected to sign the bill tomorrow. Forecast to cost $3.4 trillion over the next ten years, the measure renews Trump’s 2017 tax cuts, bolsters immigration enforcement, and mitigates Medicaid and food stamp program costs. Bucks-based Representative Brian Fitzpatrick was one of only two Republican votes against the legislation in his chamber, Representative Thomas Massie of Kentucky being the other. All Democrats, decrying tax reduction and social spending cuts, voted “no” on the bill, which received 218 votes in favor to 214 in opposition.
