Fire halts SEPTA train at Levittown-Tullytown station
Rail service along SEPTA’s Trenton Line was temporarily disrupted Tuesday morning after a fire ignited atop a moving train, forcing an emergency stop at the Levittown-Tullytown station. The train, en route to Center City Philadelphia, was carrying approximately 100 passengers, all of whom were safely evacuated. The Edgely Fire Company and Tullytown Fire Company responded quickly to contain the flames. Fortunately, no injuries were reported. Authorities are still investigating the cause of the blaze, which appeared to originate from the roof of the train.
Official start to summer is June 20 but heat arrives in Bucks
After a cooler-than-usual May, the start of June is ushering in true summer weather. Ray Kruzdlow, meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Mount Holly, New Jersey, says a high-pressure system is moving off the coast, setting up a southwesterly flow that will bring daytime highs into the upper 80s this week. Expect rising humidity as the weekend approaches. A brief reprieve is expected by Saturday, when temperatures may dip slightly. Kruzdlow notes that this warm-up marks the first extended heat of the season, with possible implications for energy demand and air quality across the region.
Newtown doctor urges skin cancer checks as UV levels rise
With longer days and stronger sun exposure, a Newtown-based physician is reminding residents to prioritize skin protection. Dr. Stephen Vanni, host of Capital Health Watch on WBCB, advises using sunscreen with an SPF of at least 30 and limiting direct sun exposure to five minutes daily to meet vitamin D needs. He emphasizes the importance of annual skin exams for all adults—especially those with fair skin or a history of sunburn. “Even patients in their 20s and 30s need to be proactive,” says Dr. Vanni, who highlights mole monitoring as a critical preventive measure in spotting early signs of skin cancer.
