County sues Big Pharma over insulin prices – Bucks Round-Up – May 19, 2025

County sues Big Pharma over insulin prices
Bucks County is joining the national legal fight against pharmacy benefit managers (PBMs) and insulin manufacturers, filing a federal lawsuit that aims to hold some of the most powerful players in the healthcare industry accountable for soaring insulin costs. The case, filed in U.S. District Court in New Jersey, targets PBM giants CVS Caremark, Express Scripts, and OptumRx, alongside drugmakers Eli Lilly, Novo Nordisk, and Sanofi.

District Attorney Jen Schorn announced the county’s legal action in coordination with a broader consumer protection push, saying her office is “dedicated to fighting a scheme” that’s hurt diabetic patients and taxpayers alike. She emphasized the importance of using “all available resources” to battle what the county sees as price manipulation harming residents. The suit is part of the broader consolidated litigation over insulin pricing that continues to draw nationwide scrutiny.

Middletown man sentenced for child pornography charges
A disturbing case out of Middletown Township has resulted in a lengthy prison sentence. Shawn Edward Allison, 59, was sentenced to 2½ to 5 years in state prison after pleading guilty in January to possession of child pornography and criminal use of a communication facility. He will also serve 12 years of probation following his release.

The investigation began in August 2023 after a cybertip from the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children flagged explicit content uploaded to a cloud server. Authorities later recovered videos involving a prepubescent girl and an adult male. The sentencing marks another example of Bucks County law enforcement’s focus on prosecuting internet crimes against children.

Bristol Borough track project gets green light
Bristol Borough Council has approved a $511,053 contract with American Athletic Courts, Inc. to resurface the aging track at Bristol Borough High School. The council took formal ownership of the track through an agreement with the school district, a move that allowed the borough to secure crucial state funding.

Construction is expected to begin in the coming weeks. As part of the agreement, the newly refurbished track will be open for public use, giving residents expanded access to recreational facilities while strengthening the partnership between the borough and school district.
