Bucks County Republican delegation condemns violence against Minnesota lawmakers

HARRISBURG – Reps. Joe Hogan (R-Bucks), Shelby Labs (R-Bucks), Kristin Marcell (R-Bucks), Craig Staats (R-Bucks) and Kathleen “K.C.” Tomlinson (R-Bucks) are expressing shock and outrage following the targeted shooting of Minnesota lawmakers today.

According to law enforcement reports, Speaker Emerita Melissa Hortman and her husband were fatally shot in their home. State Senator John Hoffman and his wife were also shot and are fighting for their lives. The investigation remains ongoing.

“This was a cowardly and unacceptable act of violence against public servants and their families,” said Staats. “No one should ever fear for their life because they chose to serve their community. Our prayers are with the victims and their loved ones.”

“There are no words for something this horrific,” said Labs. “Elected officials and their families should never be the targets of violence. My thoughts are with the victims and everyone affected.”

“The attack in Minnesota was a terrible tragedy that should have never happened,” said Marcell. “My deepest condolences to their families during this difficult time.”

“This kind of tragedy shakes all of us,” said Hogan. “We may come from different states and parties, but there’s a shared understanding that public service should never come with this kind of danger.”

“This was a targeted attack on public servants and their families,” said Tomlinson. “There is absolutely no place for this in a free society. My heart goes out to everyone impacted, and I pray for justice.”
