Buckingham man on trial in Temple University officer’s killing
The trial of Miles Pfeffer, a 20-year-old from Buckingham Township, is underway in Philadelphia, where he stands accused of murdering Temple University Police Sergeant Christopher Fitzgerald. Prosecutors say Pfeffer, then 18, shot Sergeant Fitzgerald multiple times during a foot pursuit on February 18, 2023, after a series of 911 calls reported robberies and carjackings near 18th and Montgomery in North Philadelphia. Police allege that Pfeffer fled the scene, carjacked a vehicle, and escaped to his family’s home in Bucks County, where he was arrested early the next morning by a tactical SWAT unit. The defense argues Pfeffer acted out of fear. The prosecution insists the shooting was deliberate. Sergeant Fitzgerald, 31, was a husband and father of four.
